There was a POP in my throat when I coughed, now it hurts to swallow?

I am getting over an upper respiratory infection and was laying in bed coughing when there was a big pop in my throat at the front of my neck on the right hand side. Since it happened, it is uncomfortable to swallow and is very painful to swallow food or drink. Has this ever happened to anybody and what did you do? Thanks!
