Is respiratory therapy a good field to get into?

I am looking into a program at my community college. I have read some things online about how this is a stressful job and that they don't get a lot of respect from other health care professionals. It may become outdated soon? Also, is there really a demand for this occupation? Please help if you are knowledgeable, I will pick a best answer.
